Wild birds
Feeding in the garden — all year round or only in winter
Feeding wild birds in the garden is no longer just a winter activity. If you feed all year round, you can offer finer food in summer and energy-rich high-fat feed in winter. What matters is a clean feeding spot and feed without shell fragments if you want to keep things tidy under the birdhouse.
Where to find what
Ready-made seed and high-fat feed can be found under feed mixes for wild birds, suet balls, peanuts, and sunflower seeds under suet balls and snacks. If you mix your own, you’ll find the individual components under single seeds. For goldfinches and siskins, there is forest bird feed, and anyone who also feeds the rodents in the garden will find what they need under squirrel feed.
