EURITAL Health Elixir, supplementary feed for pigeons

What it is about

The Eurital Health Elixir is a liquid complementary feed for pigeons. It combines ingredients that have been used in pigeon keeping for generations: elderberry juice, onion juice, garlic, ginger, honey powder, and propolis, supplemented with echinacea and oregano oil. This article describes the composition, feeding recommendation, and the phases in which breeders typically use it.

What a complementary feed does - and what it does not do

Complementary feeds provide nutrients in addition to the basic ration. They are not medicines. They do not treat diseases and do not replace a veterinary examination if signs of illness appear. Anyone who uses them does so as part of feeding - alongside clean water, good loft hygiene, and a grain mix suited to the birds' needs.

The basics remain the housing

No additive can make up for shortcomings in housing. Clean drinking containers changed daily, a dry and well-ventilated loft, enough exercise, and a feed mix suited to the season form the foundation. Only then does an additive make sense at all.

The ingredients and their origin in pigeon keeping

The following components belong to the classic home remedies of pigeon breeding. Their traditional use is described here - not a proven effect on the animal.

Elderberry juice

Elderberry is one of the oldest home remedies of all. In pigeon keeping, the juice from the berries is traditionally given in the cooler season and around moulting.

Onion juice

Onions contain sulfur compounds and flavonoids. Onion juice is a long-established additive in pigeon keeping and is usually given diluted in the drinking water.

Garlic

Garlic has been given over the feed in pigeon sport for generations, especially during the flying season and in autumn. More on this in the article Garlic powder for pigeons.

Ginger

Ginger is a more recent addition to the pigeon loft and has become established both as a powder and as a juice. The range also includes Eurital Ginger Powder as a single ingredient.

Honey powder

Honey provides easily available carbohydrates. As a powder, it is easy to dose and makes the mix more palatable for the birds - a practical advantage with liquid additives in drinking water.

Propolis

Propolis is the resin mixture that bees use to seal their hive. In beekeeping and animal husbandry, it is traditionally used and is a common ingredient in herbal preparations.

Echinacea

Echinacea is one of the best-known medicinal plants and is widely used in herbal blends for animals. In the elixir, it stands for the plant-based part of the recipe.

Origanum oil

The essential oil of oregano is strongly aromatic and is therefore used only in very small amounts. It noticeably shapes the smell and taste of the mix.

Ingredient Form in the elixir Traditional use
Elderberry Juice Cool season, moulting
Onion Juice Year-round, diluted in water
Garlic Juice Flying season and autumn
Ginger Extract Year-round
Honey Powder Source of carbohydrates, palatability
Propolis Extract Herbal preparations
Echinacea Plant component Herbal blends for animals
Origanum Essential oil In very small amounts, strongly aromatic

Dosage and use

The elixir can be given in two ways. The information on the bottle is always decisive:

  • Via the drinking water: 10 ml per 1 liter of water.
  • Via the feed: 15 ml per 1 kg of feed. Useful when the birds drink little.

Observe the upper limit

Because of the increased content of trace elements, the elixir may not exceed 1 % of the daily ration. This limit is not a guideline, but part of the feeding recommendation - more does not help here, it only puts a strain on the birds.

Typical periods of use

Phase Use Dosage
Travel period Drinking water, at the start of the week 10 ml per liter
Moulting Feed, twice weekly 15 ml per kg
Breeding Feed, twice weekly 15 ml per kg

Practical tips

  • Prepare only as much drinking water as will be consumed on the same day - do not leave water mixed with additives standing overnight.
  • When mixing into the feed, lightly oil the grain first so the liquid sticks.
  • Store the bottle in a cool, dry place and keep it closed.
  • Do not add several liquid supplements to the same water at the same time - the dosages add up.

Classification

Health Elixir is a herbal and fruit preparation in liquid form that combines several traditional individual ingredients in one product. Anyone who prefers to dose the ingredients separately can also find them individually in the range - for example as Garlic powder, Ginger powder or as Herbal mix with 16 herbs.

Whether it is fed continuously or at intervals is handled differently by breeders. There is no universally valid rule - what matters is keeping to the upper limit and observing the birds.

Complementary feeds are used to provide nutrients. They are not medicines and do not replace veterinary treatment if signs of illness appear. The feeding recommendation on the packaging is decisive.
