Features and use
Milk thistle seeds, also known as Silybum marianum, contain natural plant-based ingredients such as bitter compounds and flavonoids. They are a traditional part of pigeon feeding, especially during feather moult.
For pigeons and birds
During the annual feather moult, ornamental birds and fancy pigeons have an increased need for nutrients. Milk thistle seeds provide valuable, easily digestible energy for this time.
For horses
In horses, milk thistle seeds are often fed during coat moult.
Dosage and feeding recommendation
Pigeons and birds
- During feather moult: 5 days, 2–3 g per animal daily
- For ongoing supplementation: mix in up to 3 % of the total feed amount
Horses
- Daily amount: 120–150 g per horse/day
- Equivalent to approx. 2–4 g silymarin, the characteristic ingredient of the seeds
Quality and origin
This Eurital Milk Thistle Seed is processed under strict quality criteria and offers a purely natural product for animal nutrition. The practical 2.5 kg bulk pack is ideal for regular use in larger aviaries, pigeon lofts, and horse farms.
