Dutchy's predatory mites 2,500 – biological control of the red poultry mite
Dutchy's are live predatory mites, which track down and eat blood mites (red poultry mite, Dermanyssus gallinae) and their developmental stages in cracks and crevices. They work where powders and sprays have difficulty reaching – in the pests' hiding places, not on the animal.
This pack contains approx. 2,500 predatory mites in carrier material, which corresponds to about 10 doses.
Coverage
-
Preventive: approx. 10 m²
-
In case of an existing infestation: approx. 5 m²
Dosage
A leveled cap (VK) from the container is used as the measure. The lower dosage applies for prevention and early infestation, the higher dosage for heavy infestation.
-
Pigeon loft, chicken coop and other night roosts: 1–3 VK per m²
-
Nests: 1–3 VK per m²
-
Breeding cage 40 × 40 cm: 1–3 VK for every four cages
-
Breeding cage 80 × 80 cm: 1–3 VK per cage
-
Nesting boxes: 1–2 VK per nesting box
-
For tropical bird mite: 1–2 VK per nest
-
Terrarium 100 × 60 cm: 1–5 VK · 200 × 60 cm: 2–10 VK · over 2 m²: 1–5 VK per m²
Areas of application
Suitable for pigeons, chickens and other poultry, aviary birds as well as reptiles and snakes. Also effective against the tropical bird mite (Ornithonyssus bursa).
What is normal after release
In the first few days after release, more pests may seem visible – even in places where none are usually seen. This is an expected intermediate stage: the predatory mites drive the blood mites out of their hiding places. If there is no improvement after about three weeks, the infestation was usually larger than assumed; in that case, a second release makes sense.
Important information on ordering and shipping

Live beneficial organisms: The goods are shipped fresh and should be released promptly after receipt.
-
Delivery only against advance payment (or PayPal).
-
No returns – these are live animals.
- Do not use together with diatomaceous earth, mite powder or sprays: these products act non-specifically and also harm the predatory mites. Before releasing the Dutchy's, clean the loft mechanically and avoid using powder.
- Store in a cool place, but frost-free and not in sunlight.
How to recognize the red poultry mite and limit an infestation in the loft is explained in the guide Diatomaceous earth in the coop. You can find more products for coop hygiene under Mite control and Cleaning & hygiene.
