Predatory mites Dutchy's 5,000 – biological control of the red poultry mite
Dutchy's are living predatory mites, which track down and feed on blood mites (red poultry mite, Dermanyssus gallinae) including their developmental stages in cracks and crevices. They reach the hiding places where the pest stays during the day – places where powders and sprays hardly reach.
This container contains approx. 5,000 predatory mites in carrier material, which corresponds to about 20 doses. It is the standard size for a normal pigeon loft or chicken coop.
Coverage
-
Preventively: approx. 20 m²
-
In case of an existing infestation: approx. 10 m²
Dosage
Use a level capful (VK) from the can as a measure. The lower dosage applies to prevention and early infestation, the higher one for severe infestation.
-
Pigeon loft, chicken coop and other night roosts: 1–3 VK per m²
-
Nests: 1–3 VK per m²
-
Breeding cage 40 × 40 cm: 1–3 VK per four cages
-
Breeding cage 80 × 80 cm: 1–3 VK per cage
-
Nest boxes: 1–2 VK per nest box
-
For tropical bird mites: 1–2 VK per nest
-
Terrarium 100 × 60 cm: 1–5 VK · 200 × 60 cm: 2–10 VK · over 2 m²: 1–5 VK per m²
Areas of application
Suitable for pigeons, chickens and other poultry, aviary birds as well as reptiles and snakes. Also effective against the tropical bird mite (Ornithonyssus bursa).
What is normal after release
In the first few days, more pests may seem visible, even in unfamiliar places. This is an expected intermediate stage – the predatory mites drive the blood mites out of their hiding places. If there is no improvement after about three weeks, the infestation was greater than assumed; then a second application is worthwhile.
